This Saturday, the International Boxing Association (IBA) held a top-notch “Night of Champions” amateur show in the city of Serpukhov, Russia. In the main event, two-time world amateur champion Muslim Gadzhimagomedov won by unanimous decision over two-time Olympic champion Julio La Cruz of Cuba in the light heavyweight division. There were constant exchanges and many moments did not have a clear dominator but the judges saw a slight victory for Gadzhimagomedov. The winner is listed as 1-0 as pro.
The co-feature was won unanimously by the Russian world champion, Mark Petrovskii against Ecuador's Julio Castillo. It was a fight with a very even start, where both fighters had outstanding moments, but the European closed the fight better to win.
Among the most interesting fights of the night was the dominant victory of Cuba's Lazaro Alvarez, by unanimous decision against the Russia's Vsevolod Shumkov. The Caribbean fighter gave his opponent heavy punishment, causing a bruise under his right eye. However, the young Russian held on, only to lose on the judges’ scorecards.
Tajikistan-born boxer Bakhodur Usmonov also won by unanimous decision over Venezuelan Luis Arcon. In a very disputed duel, it was the constant combinations of the Asian that were fundamental to get the victory.
