New champion alert: Panya Pradabsri dethrones Wanheng Menayothin.

Panya Pradabsri W12 Wanheng Menayothin... After a six-year reign as WBC strawweight  champion, Wanheng Menayothin a/k/a Chayaphon Moonsri was defeated by fellow Thai boxer Panya Pradabsri a/k/a Petchmanee CP Freshmart in what the WBC called "an authentic and fabulous battle of Thai warriors."  The big story is that Menayothin entered the bout with a record of 54-0, a superior mark on paper, to Floyd Mayweather's 50-0 and Rocky Marciano's 49-0. However, Menayothin is famous for avoiding tough competition, and it finally caught up with him today.  Pradabsri jumped out to an early lead, winning the first rounds. Menayothin responded well and managed to close the gap, but it was Pradabsri who got the best of him down the stretch. In the end, Pradabsri took the victory by unanimous decision with scores of 115-113 on all three judges scorecards.  Pradabsri is now 35-1, with the only loss coming by way of majority decision in China to Chinese boxer Chaozhong Xiong, who later held the WBC strawweight title (prior to Menayothin). Menayothin recently tried to retire on social media, but his promoters quickly shut him down in order to keep the WBC title around his waist. Perhaps the ex-champ's mental focus was a factor in his deposement. source: wbc
