Willibaldo Garcia W12 Rene Calixto... In a fight that took place in Zacatecas, Mexico, Tijuana-based Willibaldo Garcia (25-3-2) narrowly defeated Rene Calixto (23-1-1) to become the IBF super flyweight champion. Garcia won this rematch via split decision, with official scores of 115-113 and 116-112 in his favor overruling a tally of 115-113 for Calixto, who is also Mexican. Calixto did well in the first third of the fight, but Garcia came on down the stretch. The IBF title was last held by Argentina's Fernando Martinez. After Martinez unified the IBF and WBA titles by defeating Kazuto Ioka in Japan, Martinez elected a more lucrative rematch with Ioka rather than fight his IBF mandatory. The IBF stripped Martinez, who went on to defeat Ioka in the rematch, which was for the WBA title only. Last December, the IBF matched Garcia and Calixto to fill the vacancy, but their first fight was scored a draw. The other champions in the 115-pound division are Jesse Rodriguez (WBC) and Phumelele Cafu (WBO). source: ixtapa zihuatanejo
