WBA junior flyweight champion Yesica Nery Plata will defend her title on hostile ground on December 16th at the Weihnachtscirkus in Karlsruhe, Germany against local Sarah Bormann. From Mexico, Plata surprised the world when she won the 108-pound WBA title on March 11, 2022 in Panama against Yesica Bopp. Almost a year after that achievement, Plata (29-2 with 3 KOs) traveled to Canada on January 13th and took the WBC title from previously undefeated local Kim Clavel in a unanimous decision. Used to being a visitor, Plata, 29, is preparing to face Bormann, a former Olympian who holds the WBC interim belt. At age 33, Bormann has a proven background and a record of 17-0 with 7 KOs. She made her pro debut on December 15, 2017. However, Bormann has fought away from home only once when she defeated Spain’s Catalina Diaz at minimumweight in Serbia in 2021.
