Popeye Rivera wins at light heavyweight

Richie Rivera W10 Devaun Lee... Light heavyweight Richie "Popeye" Rivera won a ten-round unanimous over Devaun Lee (11-12-1) in front of over 4,000 fans at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut on Saturday night. Rivera showed his arsenal against Lee by fighting aggressively, and also his occasional ‘Popeye the Sailor Man’ fighting moves. Lee, an experienced veteran from Queens, NY, is known for being a tough opponent, and, to his credit, Lee took it all and fired back at Rivera throughout the contest. Rivera of Hartford, Connecticut, improved to 26-2 19KOs, with the unanimous decision win. Official scores were 100-90 and 97-93 (twice). Lee has now lost en of his last eleven bouts.
 
Travon Lawson W8 Rajon Chance ... The co-feature was a battle of two undefeated super bantamweights that saw Travon Lawson (6-0, 3 KOs) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama edge out a split decision win over Rajon Chance (8-1-1, 6 KOs) of East Orange, New Jersey. The scores were 78-73 Chance, overruled by two scores of 77-75 for Lawson.
 
UNDERCARD RESULTS
 
Heavyweights Demek Edmonds and Luis Miguel Valera engaged in an entertaining six-round bout. Edmonds of Worcester, Mass. prevailed with a split decision win. The victory improved Edmonds' record to 9-0 with 7 KOs. Valera, a Cuban now residing in Houston, dropped to 4-3-2 with 1 KO.
 
Sharif Rahman  returned to the ring with a tough four-round decision win over Kijonti Davis (1-4) in a middleweight bout. Rahman, who is from Las Vegas and is the son of former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, improves to 8-0 with 3 KOs.
 
Lightweight Jacob Marrero stopped Ryan Venable (4-20) in the second round of their scheduled four-round bout. Marrero of Bridgeport, Conn.is now 6-0 with 5 KOs. 
 
New York City fireman Louis Maietta scored the first stoppage win of his nine-bout pro career. Maietta evened up his pro record at 4-4-2 by stopping Erick Alves (0-3) in the second round of a scheduled four-round super middleweight fight.
