Purse bid off for Matias vs. Valenzuela

UPDATE: The IBF anounced that the Subriel Matias vs. Gabriel Valenzuela purse bid scheduled for Thursday, January 30th has been cancelled. On January 11th, the IBF ordered Subriel Matias of Puerto Rico (pictured) and Gabriel Valenzuela of Mexico to begin negotiations for the IBF's #1 ranking in the junior welterweight division. On January 22nd, the IBF received a letter from attorney Miguel J. Ortega-Núñez on behalf of Matias requesting a purse bid because they are unable to reach an agreement. The IBF has now ordered a purse bid for Tuesday, February 4th. Matias, a former champion, is one of the hardest punchers in the sport. He lost the IBF title to Liam Paro last June but bounced back with an early knockout of Roberto Ramirez in November. Valenzuela is 30-3-1 and has won five straight against good opposition since a narrow 2022 loss to Montana Love. Before that, Gonzalez's last loss was to still-undefeated William Zepeda in 2017.
