Quillin Says He's Going To Finish Truax "as soon as possible"

Greg Leon: How's everything going in preparation for your upcoming August 31st rematch with Caleb Truax [the first bout was a no contest]? Peter Quillin: "We've been working, we've been feeling good and the preparation is going great. I have a little more control of this camp than the last one and I feel a lot more durable and ready to go. That's not to say that I wasn't feeling durable before, it was just little things here and there that were happening that we had to fix. Right we're in a good alignment with everything and I'm looking forward to putting my best foot forward on August 31st."

GL: Are you disappointed that a rematch of this fight has been ordered? And on top of that it's happeing in his hometown again.

PQ: "Me personally, I feel like everything that's been happening in my life is under divine order. I'm not disappointed at all. I'm getting another payday and I'm going to put my best foot forward and do what I was planning to do in the first fight, which was dominate. Now I get to fight on a card with one of my Cuban brothers, (Erislandy) Lara. I'm proud to be able to share the ring and share the card with an all time great Cuban champion. For me I'm just proud and people might look at it as a step down because it's not the main event this time, but so be it. It's another payday and after that I'm going to be going to Cuba to see my family, I've got big plan and the first step in that plan is to get in there and beat him up in his backyard."

GL: Do you plan to target his eye with the jab and right hand early and often? Do you think he's had a sufficient amount of time for that to cut to heal?

PQ: "We're just preparing to do what we've got to do like any smarter fighter should."

GL: Have you added anything to this camp or is it a carbon copy of what you did preparing for him the first time around?

PQ: "I've added stretch classed on Tuesday and Thursday. I've got more of a routine now with a set schedule. I give every one of my trainers their 100%. I give them 100% of my attention, 100% of my focus, 100% of dedication and then I give it all back to God that everything is going to fall in line the way it's supposed to. I know God is doing something divine with my whole career and it ain't going to be like anybody else's. There's a divine order to what I'm doing and I'm thankful to God and I'm just going to give it back to him in worship. I'm glad to have Sosa in my corner, people need to look at what Sosa is doing and all of the great fighters he's working with. He's one of the best trainers out there and people need to be checking him out. "

GL: Personally I don't think the rematch should have been ordered. I feel like you were in control of what little action there was before the stoppage and he made a conscious decision to get out of the fight rather than continue. The powers that be definitely wanted it though and here you are in his hometown again

PQ: "No. I feel like I got to go out there and put my best foot forward and continue doing what I did in the first fight. This time I'm going to have much more fun with it. I know exact what I'm in for now and I'm going to have fun with it. He's got some die hard fans up there. I had people telling me I was going to get knocked the F out. Somebody actually shook my hand and asked me how does it feel? I responded, how does what feel and he said how does it feel to be a bitch? (Quillin spelled out bitch rather than say it) And the guy said this to my face, it was brutal. His fans were more brutal than he was, he didn't fight like they talked that's for sure."

GL: Will this fight go the distance? Do you have a prediction?

PQ: "I'm not there to make it go the disance, I'm there to get him out of there, I don't get paid for overtime and I'm going to try to get him out of there as soon as possible."

GL: Will you be watching the Caleb Plant-Mike Lee fight closely? What do you think about that fight?

PQ: "No. I'll worry about that when the time is right. Right now it's all about this rematch with Truax. When this business is taken care of then we'll move on to the next step."

GL: Closing thoughts.

PQ: "Tune in on August 31st and watch me put my best foot forward, I'm looking to dominate and it's going to be a show. I'm also happy to be back on Boxingtalk, we have a long history and I don't always agree with your opinions, but I understand where you're coming from and you always put it out there the way the fighters are saying it. You know the boxing game and I think that's why I like being on Boxingtalk so much."
