Report: Haney vs. Lomachenko could happen May 20th

According to the WBC, a super fight between world lightweight champion Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KO) and former three-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko (23-2 including the World Series of Boxing) could take place on May 20th at venue to be determined. The WBC reported: "This has been commented on by promoter Bob Arum, in charge of organizing the fight, assuring that in the coming days he will release more details."  The WBC quoted Arum, the CEO of Top Rank, as saying, "the fight is already agreed. It could be in New York in May, Las Vegas or the Middle East, where boxing has been getting great acceptance.”

Haney is coming off two wins over George Kambosos Jr. (20-2-0, 10 KO) in 2022. In the first clash, he wrested the world championship from him in Melbourne. Kambosos invoked the rematch clause of the contract, and they met again in October. But the result was the same, with victory for Haney by unanimous decision. Lomachenko returned to the ring in October after the war broke out in Ukraine and he decided to return to his country to fight for the freedom of its citizens. Lomachenko then defeated American Jamaine Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KO) by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden in New York in a close fight.
