Results from Florida: Brown takes main event

Kevin Brown W10 Esteuri Suero... In the ten-round main event at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, Kevin Brown (7-0, 3 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas by way of Cuba, defeated Esteuri Suero (14-2, 10 KOs) of Las Vegas by way of the Dominican Republic. Brown won the junior welterweight bout via unanimous decision. Both fighters were exchanging heavy blows throughout the fight but in round nine, Brown dropped Suero twice, both time with right-hand shots to the head. In addition, Suero was deducted one point for holding. Brown closed out the show by winning round ten. Scorecards read 95-92, 96-91, 98-89 all in favor of Brown. “Suero came in tough and ready, and we gave the fans a war,” stated Brown, who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing. “He landed some good shots, but I stayed composed and picked my moments. When I dropped him twice in the ninth, I knew I had broken through. I closed the show strong in the tenth and proved I’m ready for the next level. Winning the WBA Continental North America title means everything—it’s just the start of what’s coming.”

Hendri Cedeno W6 Idalberto Umara... In the chief support bout, Dominican junior welterweight Hendri Cedeno (16-0, 12 KOs) defeated Miami’s Idalberto Umara (13-4, 9 KOs) by TKO. Both fighters were trading back and forth throughout the fight but after round six, Umara could not continue and failed to come out for round seven. “Umara came to fight, and I respect that,” said Cedeno, who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Kings Promotions. “We were going toe-to-toe for six tough rounds, but I could feel the momentum shifting in my favor. I was breaking him down round by round. When he didn’t come out for the seventh, I knew the pressure and power were too much. This WBO Intercontinental title is just the beginning—I’m coming for the top guys in the division.”

Lenier Pero W10 Teddy Webster... Heavyweight Lenier Pero (12-0, 8 KOs) defeated Teddy Webster (9-5, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision. Pero dominated the entire fight but was deducted two points in round nine for low blows. Pero won on the scorecards, which read 96-92 (twice) and 98-90. “I felt in control from the first round,” Pero said, who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Matchroom Boxing. “Webster is a tough guy, but I stuck to my game plan and dominated every round. The low blow deductions in round nine were unfortunate, but they didn’t change the outcome—I made it clear who the better fighter was. Winning the WBA Continental North America Heavyweight Title is a big step, and I’m coming for more in this division.”

Gurgen Hovhannisyan KO5 Dajuan Calloway... In the opening televised bout of the evening, heavyweight Gurgen Hovhannisyan (8-0, 7 KOs) defeated Dajuan Calloway (11-4, 9 KOs) by fifth round knockout. Two overhand rights landed flush on the head of Calloway sending him to the canvas at the 1:33 mark of round five. “I knew my power would be the difference, and I just had to stay patient,” said Hovhannisyan, who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing. “Once I saw the opening, I let the overhand rights go and landed clean. Calloway’s a strong opponent, but when I hit him, he couldn’t get back up. I’m here to make a statement in the heavyweight division—one knockout at a time.”
