Rivas wins tune-up; bridgerweight title fight next?

Oscar Rivas TKO3 Sylvera Louis... Colombian-born Oscar Rivas ended his long period of inactivity and is hoping to become the first WBC bridgerweight (224-pound) champion. Now living in Montreal, Rivas had no difficulty winning his rematch vs. Sylvera Louis on Tuesday in Quebec City. Fighting for the first time since 2019, Rivas (27-1, 19 KOs) won by stoppage following Louis's retirement (8-6) after the third round. Returning after an absence of four and a half years, Louis was knocked down in round two and could not deal with the fast pace set by Rivas, who had already beaten him once several years ago. Rivas is poised to fight either Kevin Lerena of South Africa or Bryant Jennings of the United States, and his promoter Yvon Michel mentioned that an announcement will be made soon, possibly at the beginning of April. Jennings, who Rivas already defeated in January 2019, is said to be reluctant to sign the contract to face the Colombian, which is why Lerena's name has surfaced in the past few hours. Jennings has lost two straight and has not won a fight since 2018. casource: rds
