John Ryder W12 Daniel Jacobs... At the Alexandra Palace in London, John Ryder scored a surprise, and probably undeserved split-decision win over former IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs. All three scorecards were 115-113, with one of them tilting towards Jacobs, but the other two favoring the British man. Jacobs controlled the first half of the fight but began to falter in round seven. Boxingtalk thought Jacobs resumed winning the rounds from ten on, but two of the judges didn't agree. It may have been a measure of karma, as most thought Ryder (31-5) was robbed of a WBA title against Callum Smith in 2019 and most also thought Jacobs (37-4) got away with one against Gabe Rosado in 2020. Jacobs, who survived a difficult struggle with cancer to become a world champion, was very classy afterwards, smiling and congratulating Ryder before quickly exiting the ring. As the bout was a WBA eliminator, Ryder is dreaming of luring world 168-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to London for a huge fight.
