South African boxing news

In an al-South African bout, super flyweight Gcina Makhoba toes the line against Thulani Gumede on February 27th in Durban. Both 115 pounders are from the KwaZulu-Natal province, so pride and bragging rights will very much be on the line in this local encounter. A pro for just over three years, Makhoba brings a record of 5-1-1, compared to Gumede's 7-1-1 ledger since June 2016. Makhoba's last action was about a year ago, a technical decision over Musawenkosi Ndwandwe, while Gumede scored a victory on the undercard. Both have since been waiting patiently for a return to the ring, and now it happens in this event promoted by Starline Boxing Promotions.
