Australia's Troy Waters, a junior middleweight contender from the late 80s and early 90s, passed away at age 53 from leukemia. Waters was a former commonwealth champion who challenged three times for world titles, losing to Terry Norris, Simon Brown and Gianfranco Rosi. He also lost to Felix Trinidad. In 1993, he thrilled boxing fans when he knocked down Terry Norris in a WBC championship fight. It was considered the round of the year. Waters' pro career spanned from 1984 to 1998 and he won his last fight to end up with record of 28-5. He was from a boxing family, as his brothers Guy and Dean joined him as winers of Australian championships. Boxingtalk joins the WBC in sending its condolences to the friends and family of Troy Waters. --Scott Shaffer
