In response to an Evander Holyfield press release expressing frustration that a fight vs. fellow legend Mike Tyson could not be finalized, Tyson posted the following message to his social media account: "Just to be clear, there is no Tyson with Triller fight. I don’t know any Triller executives personally. I don’t have a deal with Triller or any head executive representing them for the next event. I am a partner in Legends Only League and my next event is with my league. I will never do another event or any business with Triller so anyone misrepresenting that they own the rights to my name or my next event isn’t true. I am not with or ever will be with Triller's fight club."
Triller was the entity that broadcast Tyson's late 2020 exhibition vs. Roy Jones to great success.
Perhaps Holyfield's team was negotiating with Triller instead of Tyson directly. “We thought this was a done deal but it quickly fell apart when Tyson’s people declined all offers,” said Kris Lawrence, Holyfield’s manager. “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time.”
Earlier this week, Holyfield's representatives issued a press release expressing frustration after-- according to them-- Tyson’s representatives refused to accept a $25,000,000 guarantee to participate in Holyfield-Tyson III at the Hard Rock Stadium in Southern Florida to kick off Memorial Day weekend. The parties have been negotiating for several months and Team Holyfield believed a deal was imminent, especially after the Hard Rock threw its support behind the project, and there were multiple other offers conveyed to Team Tyson.
According to Holyfield, the event was to occur at the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL franchise. While neither side announced publicly that the fight is not going to happen, with negotiations at a standstill and the date rapidly approaching, it seems unlikely that this fight will occur as planned.
