Unheralded Mario Cazares roughs up unmotivated Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr.

Mario Cazares W6 Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. In Tijuana, unhearlded Mario Cazares took what little credibility Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had left, dominating Chavez for six rounds beofre winning via technical decision. The 30 year-old Cazares (12-0) is a super middleweight, but moved up to light heavyweight to accomodate the training-adverse Chavez. The fight probably should not have happened at all given that Chavez is under a United States suspension for his last performance, a loss to Danny Jacobs. Cazarez, however, is glad Chavez was allowed to fight in his native Mexico. The fight was a dirty one, with Chavez resorting to early fouls, and Cazares responding with a headbutt that caused an early point deduction. But as a whole, Cazares outworked Chavez and landed punches consistently, while Chavez seemed unwilling to dig down and engage in a tough fight. When a cut opened up over Chavez's left eye in round six, he did not mind when the fight was stopped. The cut was ruled to have been caused by an accidental headbutt by Cazares, and the fight went to the scorecards. Two scores of 57-56 for Cazares were way too close, with the 59-54 scorecard a more accurate reflection of the action. Chavez is now 51-5-1 and is little more than a sideshow attraction. source: dazn
