Vergil Ortiz Jr. W12 Israil Madrimov... Vergil Ortiz Jr. successfully defended his WBC interim junior middleweight title by defeating former WBA champion Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan by unanimous decision on Saturday as part of the huge "Last Crescendo” card which took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ortiz had to fight hard for all twelve rounds to beat Madrimov, an experienced and intelligent opponent who moved very well at the start of the fight, but Madrimov's efforts were not enough to defeat Ortiz. From Texas, Ortiz took the victory by scores of 117-111 and 115-113 (twice). Ortiz improved his record to 23-0, with 21 knockouts, while Madrimov, who lost his title but gave a very tough battle to Terrence Crawford, fell to 16-3-1 including the World Series of Boxing.
