Victor Ruiz knocks Christian Carto unconscious

Victor Ruiz KO2 Christian Carto... It was a very disturbing scene in Philadelphia as Mexico's Victor Ruiz knocked 22 year-old hometown favorite Christian Carto unconscious with a single left in the second round of a bantamweight fight. With the sold-out crowd hushed, Carto did not move at all for three minutes and after an interminable eleven minutes on the  canvas, he left the 2300 Arena on a stretcher, gloves still on.  Carto was taken directly to a hospital. Before he left, Carto was administered oxygen but seemed to be breathing on his own as he was carried out. For historical context, Ruiz's KO of Carto closely resembled Floyd Patterson's 1960 dismantling of Ingemar Johansson (in the second of their three fights). Ruiz rushed in with a single left hand that put Carto flat on his back, Carto's arms stretched out and his foot twitching.  Ruiz, a southpaw, was a classic example of a boxer with a deceiving record. On paper, Carto's 17-0 compared favorably to Ruiz's 22-10, expecially since Ruiz lost four in a row coming in. But Carto had no experience at the world or even national level, while Ruiz's losses included three boxers who held world championships: Zolani Tete, Angel Acosta and Daiki Kameda, plus world-class McWilliams Arroyo.  source: facebook fightnight live
