WBA: Niyomtrong must fight Rosa in neutral country

The WBA Championships Committee has cancelled the last purse bid for the minimumweight bout between WBA 105-pound super champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong a/k/a Knockout CP Freshmart and regular champion Erick Rosa. Niyomtrong’s team had originally won a purse bid for the rights to the fight and it was scheduled to take place last March 3rd in Thailand. However, Rosa had problems related to travel documentation and was denied entry into Thailand. The WBA has now called for a new purse bid, scheduled for March 28th in Panama City. After studying the situation, the WBA concluded there is some fault on both sides for the failure on March 3rd to hold the fight.  Consequently, the WBA considers it appropriate to cancel the award of the promotional rights due to the extraordinary circumstances. A new purse bid will now be called with an additional condition that the fight will take place on neutral ground. Whoever wins the rights to promote this fight, will not be able to hold the fight in Thailand or the Dominican Republic.  In the event that there is no acceptable bid for the bidding or if appropriate contracts are not submitted in a timely manner, the championship committee may make various decisions based on the internal rules, among which is to order a fight between the next two highest ranked fighters in the body.
