The WBA has granted an appeal filed by Beibut Shumenov and has structured their three-tier championship system as follows in the cruiserweight division: When WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev fights IBF champion Victor Ramirez, the WBA will recognize the winner as super champion; current interim titlist Beibut Shumenov will become the immediate mandatory challenger to the Lebedev-Ramirez winner (or to Lebedev if Lebedev-Ramirez is a draw); Shumenov can apply to fight in anon-title bout while he waits for his mandatory defense; and the winner of tomorrow’s fight between Yunier Dorticos and Youri Kalenga will be the new interim titlist, even though the WBA previously sanctioned the fight, and fans were sold tickets as if Dorticos-Kalenga was a world title fight. Presumably this means Shumenov has been stripped of his interim title, although who really knows with the WBA?
