Former 130-pound titlist Joseph “Jo Jo” Díaz Jr. (31-1-1, 15 KOs), will face Javier “Abejón” Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) on July 9th in Los Angeles, California. At stake will be the WBC interim lightweight title that the WBC stripped away from Ryan Garcia due to Garcia's mental health status. Fortuna was originally scheduled to face Garcia. The fight is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and will be broadcast on DAZN. Diaz dropped the IBF super featherweight championship when he failed to make weight, and he wound up battling Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov of Kazakhstan to a draw.
