With world light heavyweight champion Dmitri Bivol contemplating a third fight against Artur Beterbiev, the WBO has ordered a mandatory defense for Callum Smith's interim title in the 175-pound division. On Monday, the WBO instructed mith (pictured), a former super middlewight champion from the UK, to face David Morrell of Cuba. The boxers' respective promoters will have thirty days to negotiate a deal or face a potential purse bid. Smith (31-2) is coming off a grueling win over Joshua Buatsi in February that may have taken a lot out of him. Morrell (13-1 including the World Series of Boxing) won a split decison ten days ago over previously undefeated Imam Khataev. That too was a punishing bout with Morrell suffering a knockdown.
