British promoter Frank Warren (pictured) says light heavyweight Callum Johnson will cross the Atlantic Ocean to challenge Joe Smith Jr. for the WBO world title at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on on January 15th. Warren wrote, "while the fight hasn’t quite been officially rubber-stamped and put to poster just yet, [Smith's co-promoter] Bob Arum has been happily confirming the fight, so I am not letting any cats out of the bag. It is a big chance for Callum to seize the title and then fight it out amongst the other UK light heavies with a huge prize on the line." Johnson in 20-1 with the lone loss coming in a falied 2018 title bid vs. Artur Beterbiev in which Johnson scored a knockdown. Johnson is 2-0 in 2021 after sitting out 2020.
