Yamileth Mercado W10 Paulette Valenzuela... Yamileth Mercado (21-3) defeated fellow Mexican Paulette Valenzuela on Saturday by unanimous decision. Official scores were 98-92 (twice) and 97-93 after the ten rounds were complete. It was Mercado's sixth defense of her WBC super bantamweight title, and it was held in Xochitepec, Morelos, Mexico. The aggressive Mercado forced Valenzuela (16-3) against the ropes and punished her with right overhands and hooks. Valenzuela threw punches at all times but it was not enough to overcome the champion. The WBC quoted Mercado as saying, “I had an injury during the fight, but that didn’t stop me. Paulette was a worthy challenger. She came in very hungry, but I was completely determined to win and defend my WBC crown."
